Quick passage for early arrivals
Copyright © Challenge Business
May 31, 2004 Yesterday four yachts arrived in Horta in gloomy
clouded skies after a fast passage from Bermuda of a few hours over eleven days.
Alcid skippered by Frank Adshead took line honours in his Saga 43 winning a
private battle for the last four days with Swan 40 Sandettie who arrived
approximately 40 minutes later. Both skippers were delighted to meet each other on the customs dock for check in and congratulate each other on their performance.
Eve II arrived shortly after with Skipper Stephen Byrne very pleased with his
yacht, which revelled in the strong winds from the beam, almost constant for
the past eight days. With her big powerful rig, including large staysail the
Oyster 62 soon ate up the miles to Horta, regularly doing 200 mile days. A few
days previously they had met with Alcid, swapping ice for fresh tuna caught by
Alcid, transferring the goods on a line with the two yachts still surfing
along at eight knots.

of a new hull composite designed to improve the collision resistance of its sailboats.
The design co-weaves a specially developed Dupont laminate of Kevlar® E-glass, combined with a premium, tough vinylester resin. The new composite material is laid on a Balteck® aircraft-grade balsa core.
The result is a light weight hull with higher local and global stiffness as well as improved impact resistance.
